Every year the Exeter MGOC hold their Moor2Sea run which is popular with our members. Last year the run was cancelled followed by another more recent cancellation this year. However, this didn’t stop a few intrepid Chi members from devising their own Devon run.

We had hotels and restaurants booked and, as long as we followed the Covid rules, we were happy to go. The weather forecast for Sunday wasn’t great but 6 cars set off for Tiverton in the sunshine on Saturday morning in various groups. On Saturday evening, we had an Indian meal while the rest of the country was watching England win a Euros semi-final match.

Robin kindly provided a Northern route and we set off on Sunday morning to drive to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. No sooner had we set off than the rain started and did it rain! We scattered to various locations on arrival in Lynmouth to have a snack and hide from the rain. Some of us ended up in a tea garden with a plastic tarpaulin roof to keep us dry. My tea definitely got diluted! Others were luckier, with a generous Devon cream tea.

At that point, most of us abandoned the run and made tracks back to hotels and B&B’s Although at least one brave couple completed the run and another made their own scenic route across Exmoor even finding the sun nearer to Tiverton and putting their hood down. The sun persisted as we drove to a local pub later for dinner and it was glorious sunshine for our return home. The conclusion was that it had been a fun trip and the decision to go was the right one.
