SUMMARY:Chichester MGOC Autumn Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Tour 2026 – Friday 9th to Sunday 11th October  \n\n\n\nTHE TOUR IS NOW FULLY BOOKED – IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE WAITLIST PLEASE EMAIL events@chichestermgoc.org.uk \n\n\n\nThe destination for the 2026 Autumn Tour is the Thames Valley & Chiltern Hills  \n\n\n\nThe Thames Valley follows the River Thames west from London towards Oxford\, through Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. This picturesque area includes several historic towns\, heritage sites and rolling countryside. The Chiltern Hills extend northeast from Goring-on-Thames and include the Chilterns National Landscape (formerly AONB)  \n\n\n\nThe Chilterns National Landscape\n\n\n\nProposed Itinerary   \n\n\n\nFriday 9th October  \n\n\n\nAfter meeting for breakfast\, a scenic route will take us to our hotel in Dorchester-on-Thames. On the way to the hotel\, we will stop for a light bite/refreshments\, followed by a visit to The Aston Martin Heritage Museum which has a display of Aston Martin vehicles\, memorabilia and documents. Then it’s just a short drive to our hotel.   \n\n\n\nWe will be staying for two nights at the George Hotel a former coaching inn originally built in the 15th century and retaining many original features. On both nights we have exclusive use of the dining room for our group.  \n\n\n\nThe George Hotel\, Dorchester on Thames\n\n\n\nSaturday 10th October  \n\n\n\nOur suggested route for the day will take us across the Chiltern Hills before heading south back to the Thames at Marlow\, an attractive Georgian market town\, and then follow the river to Henley-on-Thames\, famous for its annual rowing regatta.  There will be plenty of places to have lunch either in Marlow or Henley-on-Thames.   \n\n\n\nMarlow\n\n\n\nHenley on Thames\n\n\n\nOn the way back to the hotel there will be an opportunity to visit Nuffield Place\, former home of William Morris the founder of the Morris Motor Company and one of the 20th Century’s most prolific philanthropists\, it is now a National Trust property.   \n\n\n\nNuffield Place\n\n\n\nThe Tour Book will provide information about interesting places to visit\, along with suggested coffee and lunch stops. We will then get back to the hotel in time to relax before dinner and a light-hearted quiz!  \n\n\n\nSunday 11th October  \n\n\n\nAfter checking-out from the hotel\, our suggestion for the day will start by heading west to Abingdon\, the site of the MG car factory from 1929 until its closure in 1980 and still home to the MG Car Club. We hope to visit the Club HQ and/or the Abingdon Museum\, which has an MG room including the last MGB Roadster produced. Abingdon itself lies on the River Thames. An historic market town\, with plenty of cafes to stop for a coffee\, riverside walks and Medieval Abbey gardens.    \n\n\n\nAbingdon Museum displays the last MGB Roadster produced\n\n\n\nAbingdon – the oldest continuously inhabited town in England\n\n\n\nFrom Abingdon there will be a short drive to Didcot and a visit to the Didcot Railway Centre.  A railway museum and preservation engineering site covering 21 acres. The site was formerly a Great Western Railway engine shed and locomotive stabling point. There are three short lengths of running track\, each with a station at both ends.  Locomotives\, rolling stock\, Brunel’s “Atmospheric Pipe”\, a signalling centre and air raid shelter are just a few of the things to see.   \n\n\n\nDidcot Railway Centre\n\n\n\nFor anyone wanting refreshments onsite\, The Engine Shed has food available including a range of pasties\, sausage rolls\, jacket potatoes\, sandwiches\, cakes and snacks. (Hot food served until approx 2pm)\,   \n\n\n\nAfter our visit to the Didcot Railway Centre you are free to explore the area further or head back home on a route of your choice.  \n\n\n\nTour Costs \n\n\n\nThis will range from £454.00 to £524.00 for double occupancy and £345.00 to £415.00 for single occupancy depending on room type.
