SUMMARY:Scenic drive and visit to Longstock Water Gardens
DESCRIPTION:We have now reached capacity for this event – if you would like to be added to the waitlist please email events@chichestermgoc.org.uk \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAfter the success of our club visit to Longstock Water Gardens last year we have arranged for another visit\, this time in early Summer\, where there should be a blaze of colour with rhododendrons in full bloom. The Garden is looked after by a dedicated team throughout the year covering six acres of crystal clear water\, islands and woodland valleys. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe day will start with breakfast at The Pavilion Cafe at Stansted House followed by a scenic drive to Longstock water gardens. Entry fee is £10 per person (card payment only)\, and parking is free. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnce you’ve visited the water garden there is still a great deal more to see. Take a walk up through Longstock Park’s fine arboretum to Longstock Park farm shop\, café & nursery. The café and farm shop sit within a stylish and comfortable oak framed building which is located on the outskirts of Longstock village and alongside the beautiful surroundings of Longstock Park. In addition there is a plant Nursery and walled garden. Visit the farm shop for local food and gifts before heading to the Nursery where you will find a large selection of plants and stylish garden ware. \n\n\n\nWe will then have lunch at Leckford Abbas (a small informal private hotel). \n\n\n\nWe have now reached capacity for this event – if you would like to be added to the waitlist please email events@chichestermgoc.org.uk \n\n\n\nLeckford Abbas Hotel\n\n\n\nWe do hope you will join us for a lovely summers day out.

SUMMARY:Autumn Tour 2025
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED – If you wish to be added to the waitlist please email events@chichestermgoc.org.uk \n\n\n\nThe destination for the 2025 Autumn Tour is Wiltshire & North Somerset.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBradford on Avon \n\n\n\nWiltshire extends from the Cotswolds in the north to the New Forest in the south\, with Salisbury Plain in the centre. Much of the county is chalk downlands and its ancient landmarks include Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles. The largest settlement is the historic city of Salisbury. We will be staying near the western edge of the county\, giving us the opportunity to also tour the northeast part of Somerset.  \n\n\n\nProposed Itinerary   \n\n\n\nFriday 3 October  \n\n\n\nAfter meeting for breakfast\, a scenic route will take us to our hotel south of Bradford-on-Avon\, near Bath. Before arriving at the hotel\, we have arranged a visit to a diner located in a supercar storage barn for a light lunch/afternoon tea. We will then stay for two nights at the Widbrook Grange Hotel\,  part of which was originally a Georgian farmhouse and now has a heated indoor swimming pool and gym. On both nights we have exclusive use of the dining room for our group.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFive Zero’s Supercar Barn & Diner \n\n\n\nSaturday 4 October  \n\n\n\nOur suggested route for the day will be a scenic tour heading west into Somerset\, including the ancient town of Glastonbury (famous for its history\, myths\, legends and music festival)\, the cathedral city of Wells\, and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge located in the Mendip Hills National Landscape. The route notes will provide information about interesting places to visit\, along with suggested coffee and lunch stops. We will then head back to the hotel in time to relax before dinner and a light-hearted quiz!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheddar Gorge \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlastonbury Tor \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlastonbury Festival (photo taken by Clive!) \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n      Wells Cathedral  \n\n\n\nSunday 5 October  \n\n\n\nAfter checking-out from the hotel\, we head south past Longleat estate\, owned by the Marquess of Bath and famous for its safari park\, to Stourhead. Now a National Trust property\, Stourhead has an impressive 18th century Palladian house with a beautiful landscape garden and lakeside walks\, including classical temples and a tower folly. In addition to the NT restaurant\, there is also an historic pub\, so an opportunity for lunch after a good walk or visiting the house.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe then head for home after lunch.   \n\n\n\nAlternatively\, the city of Bath is only 9 miles from Bradford-on-Avon\, so you may wish to consider booking an additional night at the hotel and visiting Bath on the Monday by car or train. We have agreed with the hotel that any of the tour members wishing to stay for an extra night can do so at the group booking rate. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nEstimated at £425 for a couple\, £325 for a single – dinner\, bed and breakfast. (For breakdown of costs & Superior room supplements\, see Terms & Conditions). \n\n\n\nTo secure your place on the tour a £25 deposit per car will be required. Once booked you will receive details on how to reserve your room at the hotel. The rooms at the hotel will be allocated on a first come first served basis. \n\n\n\nBooking for this event will open at 9.00am on Monday 6th January 2025 – please ensure you read the T&C’s before booking. Please also make sure you have renewed your club membership for 2025 before the bookings open! \n\n\n\nTour Organisers: Clive Wilson / Alice & Michael Baggs \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n This event is now fully booked – please email events@chichestermgoc.org.uk if you wish to be added to the waiting list.
