MGOC Bournemouth & Poole – Athelhampton House
15th August 2021 All day
Our friends from ‘Bournemouth & Poole MGOC 1020’ have kindly invited ‘Chichester MGOC’ to their annual event at ‘Athelhampton House’ on Sunday 15th August following our very successful visit in 2019.
As a Club, together with our gazebo, we have been allocated a great position in the side gardens of this fine historic 15th Century Elizabethan Tudor manor house, next to our hosts and other visiting Classic Car Clubs. Entry costs at the gate are £15 for car, driver and navigator; or £10 per car plus driver.
In addition to a large collection of MGs and classic cars, there is a variety of stalls selling car related items. (Tony bought a set of wheels in 2019). There is also an excellent choice of food and drinks available from the restaurant, including Sunday Lunch.
We meet at 07.30am on the Sunday morning at the BP/M&S Emsworth Service Area on the west bound A27, and then drive down the M27 and A31 in our MGs to ‘The Botany Bay Inn’ for breakfast at 09.30am, in-order to arrive at Athelhampton House before 11.00am. (Colin Jessey is coordinating the Sunday event)
Weekend option – For those wishing to make a weekend visit, we have also been invited by ‘Bournemouth & Poole’ to meet them for breakfast at ‘The Botany Bay Inn’ www.thebotanybaydorset.co.uk on the Saturday morning, and then go on a local scenic run through the Dorset countryside, followed by an evening meal at ‘The Poachers Inn’ at Piddletrentidea. Those wishing to take this option, meet at 08.00am on the Saturday morning, again at the BP/M&S Emsworth Service Area on the west bound A27, and then drive down the A27 and A31 to meet our friends from Bournemouth at ‘The Botany Bay Inn’ for breakfast. (Andy Harris is coordinating the weekend option on Saturday)
Club members should make their own accommodation arrangements on the Saturday night, possibly at ‘The Poachers Inn’ at Piddletrentide; http://www.thepoachersinn.co.uk or The Botany Bay https://www.thebotanybaydorset.co.uk or other local B&Bs of their choice. ‘The Poachers Inn’ has 21 rooms and can provide an evening meal in their 17th century restaurant, or in their cosy historic bars.
Fortunately there are no restrictions on numbers for this weekend, but in politeness to out hosts, we have been asked to advise them on our numbers. We also recommend early booking of your accommodation due to the event falling in the busy summer season.
