Hovercraft Museum Visit
7th March 2020
£8Join our MG team on Saturday 7th March as we visit The Hovercraft Museum PO13 9NS (Lee-on-Solent) to view the world’s largest collection of hovercraft, in what is the only hovercraft museum in the world, housing over 60 hovercraft of various designs, ranging from basic single-seaters to The Princess Anne SRN4 cross-channel hovercraft, the largest commercial car carrying hovercraft ever built.
There is even a Mini converted into a hovercraft, and the two hovercraft used in the James Bond film Die Another Day !
The museum is run as a charity by volunteers and entry costs £8. There is a café serving drinks and snacks, a souvenir shop, and toilets.
Guided tours are available and very informative.
The museum is located 5.5 miles from the M27 Junction 11 on the site of HMS Daedalus, adjacent to the slipway originally used to launch Royal Navy seaplanes, and later for military hovercraft.
Car parking is free on the seafront and slipway, across the road from the museum.
We will meet at the Hillier Garden Centre near Bosham (PO18 8FL) at 10:00 for coffee and aim to set off at 10:30.
Clive has prepared a 45 minute route for us, and will supply directions and a gpx file (for programmable satnavs) ahead of the event.
We aim to be parked up and in the museum by 11:30, in good time for the 12:00 guided tour, which is well worth going on (the next tour is not until 14:00).
