Devon & Cornwall Tour 2024

27 April 4 May

BOOKING NOW CLOSED

The destination for our Spring Tour 2024 will be Devon and Cornwall. The tour will start with a 2-night stay near Tiverton, from where we will be able to explore Exmoor and the North Devon coast. We will then drive via the South Devon coast into Cornwall to our second hotel near Liskeard, for the rest of the week.

Itinerary

Saturday 27 April

After meeting for breakfast near Chichester, the tour will start with a suggested route to the Hartnoll Hotel, an award-winning country house hotel near the southern edge of Exmoor National Park, where we will stay for 2 nights. The route will allow us to arrive in plenty of time to meet for a drink in the bar before dinner.

Sunday 28 April

A full day to explore Exmoor and the north Somerset and Devon coast, including Porlock Hill, the steepest A-road in the UK, and the picturesque village of Lynmouth. A suggested scenic route, including places of interest and a recommended lunch stop, will be provided, or you can make your own plans for the day.

We will then return to the hotel for dinner.

Monday 29 April

The tour will continue with a suggested route along the eastern edge of Dartmoor to Dartmouth on the South Devon coast, then west towards Plymouth and across the River Tamar into Cornwall, where we will stay at Great Trethew Manor, a small country house hotel near Liskeard, for 5 nights.

Tuesday 30 April to Friday 3 May

We will provide suggested scenic routes for three of these days, covering Dartmoor National Park, southeast Cornwall (Looe and Fowey), plus Bodmin Moor and the North Cornwall coast (Boscastle and Tintagel). These will include places of interest to visit and suggested coffee and lunch stops. The other day will be a ‘free day’ to perhaps head west to Cape Cornwall and/or Land’s End, via St Ives and Penzance, or to visit some of the many places of interest nearby including:

  • Plymouth – famous for its Hoe and historic Barbican.
  • The Eden Project – Rainforest and Tropical Biomes plus outdoor gardens.
  • The Lost Gardens of Heligan – 19th-century gardens restored in the 1990s.
  • Bodmin & Wenford Railway – restored heritage railway.
  • Lanhydrock House (NT) – Victorian country house and estate.

We will have a ‘Devon & Cornwall’ themed quiz on one of the evenings and on Friday evening there will be an ‘End of Tour’ dinner and presentations.

Saturday 4 May

The route home from Cornwall will be your choice and you may wish to book an overnight stop en route.

Cost

The estimated cost of the tour, including dinner, bed and breakfast for 7 nights, route books, maps and a rally plaque is £1400 for a couple, £1090 single. Breakfast on the first day, lunches, drinks, etc. will be paid for by members separately.
