ChichesterMGOC Spring Tour 2027

24th April 2027 1st May 2027

Our tour will start with a 2-night stay in Oxfordshire, before continuing to our second hotel near Shrewsbury for the rest of the week in Shropshire; a rural historic county on the Welsh border famous as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution (Ironbridge Gorge). Its outstanding scenery includes the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (AONB) and some great driving roads!

Shropshire Hills National Landscape (AONB)

Proposed Itinerary

The Bird In Hand Hotel, Witney

Saturday 24th April

After meeting up for breakfast, the tour will start with a suggested scenic route, with recommended lunch and tea/coffee/cake stops, to The Bird in Hand Hotel, Witney in Oxfordshire, where we will stay for 2 nights. The route will allow us to arrive in plenty of time to meet for a drink in the bar before dinner. This hotel will be familiar to some of our club members as we have stayed here on previous tours.

Sunday 25th April (Drive It Day)

Stowe Gardens NT

We will provide a suggested circular route through North Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. Places of interest on the route include Bicester Motion (automotive and aviation centre), NT Stowe Gardens (extensive Georgian landscape garden and park) and the Silverstone motor racing museum.

We will then return to the hotel for dinner.

Monday 26th April

The Albright Hussey Manor Hotel, Shrewsbury

After checking-out from the hotel, we will head north-west with a suggested route towards Worcester and then onto Shropshire for a 5-night stay at the historical Albright Hussey Manor Hotel near Shrewsbury. Set in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside with four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Dating back to circa 1524 and listed in the Domesday book, the Manor encompasses a wealth of history. The hotel has hosted numerous car clubs over the years, including Rolls Royce, Jaguar and Aston Martin. The owner is a car enthusiast and he even has a car-washing facility set up in the grounds of the hotel!

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th April

There will be suggested scenic routes with places of interest to visit and suggested coffee/lunch stops for three of these days, including:

  • South-west Shropshire (Shropshire Hills National Landscape) – Long Mynd scenic viewpoint, Offa’s Dyke, Ludlow (medieval market town with 11th century castle)
  • North-west Shropshire and the River Dee Valley in Wales – Oswestry (British Ironwork Centre), Llangollen (Pontcysyllte Aqueduct), Wrexham, Ellesmere (lakes)
  • East Shropshire – Ironbridge Gorge (UNESCO World Heritage site), Bridgnorth (Cliff Railway and Severn Valley Railway), Much Wenlock (birthplace of the modern Olympic Games)
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

The other day will be a ‘free day’ to visit some of the many places of interest nearby or in the area, including:

  • Shrewsbury – Medieval market town in a loop of the River Severn, with cobbled streets, black and white timber-framed buildings and ancient town walls.
  • Attingham Park (NT) – 18th century estate with 200 acres of parkland and an elegant Regency Mansion with walled garden and deer park
  • RAF Cosford Museum – extensive collection of historic aircraft. Displays include RAF 1918 – 2018 and the Battle of Britain (free entry)
  • Hawkstone Park Follies – 18th century landscape park with caves, cliffs, towers and woodland trails set among dramatic sandstone hills
  • The Burway – an 8-mile notoriously steep single-track road with panoramic views (for confident drivers!)
